In a move aimed at supporting the academic pursuits of students across the state, the Edo State Government has announced the cancellation of the reintroduced Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise initially scheduled for Saturday, April 26, 2025. This decision was communicated via a special government announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq.
The cancellation follows the commencement of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), which began on Thursday, April 24, 2025, across the country. Recognizing the importance of this examination for thousands of students in Edo State and the logistical challenges that could arise from the sanitation exercise, the government chose to prioritize students’ ease of access to examination centers.

While the sanitation exercise will not hold in April, the state government emphasized the importance of maintaining clean and healthy surroundings. Residents are strongly encouraged to continue upholding cleanliness within their immediate environments despite the cancellation.
Looking ahead, the reintroduced Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise is set to resume on the last Saturday of May 2025. The exercise will take place across Edo State from 7:00 am to 10:00 am, reinforcing the administration’s dedication to environmental hygiene and public health.
The Edo State Government reiterated its commitment to creating a safer, healthier, and cleaner environment for all residents. This thoughtful adjustment highlights the government’s responsiveness and its balanced approach to governance — one that values both education and environmental well-being.
